Tales of the Cocktail Convention
In July 2016, I was invited to build a project in New Orleans for Tales of the Cocktail, a 6-day spirits festival/convention for people in the spirits industry. My client was Woody Creek Distillers who ran a panel & tasting seminar for their craft spirits and used cardstacking as a metaphor for building a brand.
I had a few hours to free build a table display using the distillery's promotional playing cards. The project turned out great, although it did have some challenges. Summer in New Orleans is hot and humid. Fortunately, the air conditioning in the conference room was going full blast. Unfortunately, the vent was almost directly over the table on which I was building. I didn't think it would be an issue but as I built up and got closer in height to the vent, the breeze became more and more troublesome. Eventually, I tried something radical, and moved the table in the middle of the build! I slid a playing card under each leg of the table to make "sliders" and very carefully pulled the table out of the air blast zone. You can see this point in the timelapse video below that I shot with my phone. |
